10:17pm the night of February 12th<\/sup> 2009 changed the lives of everyone in WNY forever, with the crash of Continental Flight 3407 onto 6038 Long Street in Clarence Center.<\/p>\n 51 people died, including the unborn baby of a pregnant woman on board the plane, and one person in the home- Mr. Douglas Wielinski.<\/p>\n That location at Long Street stands now as a place of solemn remembrance of what happened that cold night, a place for family- neighbors- and Western New Yorkers to gather annually for a candlelight vigil, and other events so we will never forget.<\/p>\n One person who was taken too early in the crash was Ellyce “Ellie” Kausner – her father John Kausner – joins host John Di Sciullo to remember his daughter. He talks about how his family is working to turn tragedy into something good for others- and the work the families 3407 have done and continue to do pushing for change in modern aviation to make flying safe for all.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n He is joined by Scott Bylewski – who was Clarence Town Supervisor at the time- and worked tirelessly to pull together efforts on so many levels at the crash site, for the families, the community, and an army of government officials and media. Scott is now an attorney with the law offices of William Mattar. Scott emotionally discusses what the incident meant for him, and how our community learned and grew from it.<\/p>\n And from the media- former WKBW reporter Steve Barber- who worked for John when he was News Director at Channel 7 at the time joins the conversation. John and Steve were together the night they heard the scanners go off in the newsroom- to begin non-stop coverage of a news event that changed the lives of those covering it also.
