Now until July 3, 2017 – our pal Dave Jickster from 97 Rock, and host of our WBBZ-TV fall football show – is playing in the “11 Day Power Play!”
What is that?
The world’s longest hockey game to help raise money to fight cancer!
Thousands watched opening ceremonies Thursday as the teams began their games on Harbor Center ice in downtown Buffalo. You are invited to watch them play this week as teams take rotation in their “goal” to raise over $1 million dollars for cancer research, and break a world record.
Here is more from their official website, www.11daypowerplay.com
I t’s going to be grueling. It’s going to be insane. It’s going to be inspirational. Buffalo’s HARBORCENTER will play host to one continuous 11-day hockey game to raise money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.Forty fearless players will spend over 250 hours on the ice. The 11-Day Power Play will be an unfathomably fierce fight—yet it’s nothing compared to the battle cancer patients face each day.
Playing hockey for 11 days straight isn’t exactly easy. But when the players were asked to take part in something bigger than hockey, they didn’t hesitate for a second. Listen to their personal stories and learn what inspires each of them to keep playing.
A huge thank you to Pegula Sports & Entertainment and the Buffalo Sabres for making this video possible.
a record
breaking goal
The title for the world’s longest hockey game is currently held by Dr. Brent Saik and Friends in Saiker’s Acres, Alberta, Canada who played for 250 hr 03 min 20 sec between February 6th and 16th 2015. Buffalo locals Mike and Amy Lesakowski, and a group of determined friends, have set their sights on breaking that record, hoping to raise at least $1,000,000 along the way.
The forty players who will run the gauntlet will be required to eat, sleep and breathe hockey—literally living at HARBORCENTER for 11 days, along with raising $10,000 each for the cause.
