Our man Dave "DJ" Jickster from 97 Rock is camped out in front of the Eastern Hills Mall for #RockOutHunger to benefit the Food Bank of WNY. You can't miss the van he is living in parked at the main entrance. You have until Wednesday to visit and drop off turkeys, canned goods, or cash. The #Snowvember storm put Dave behind by a few thousand turkeys. Dave will join us Tuesday LIVE on "The Fred Jackson Show" with an update. If you have audience reservations, bring a canned food item. Our own John Di Sciullo from WBBZ-TV stopped by Sunday to visit Dave and Mike Billoni from the Food Bank. While there, Dave Gordon - owner of Dave's Christmas Wonderland - stopped by to help decorate. What makes his visit worth noting is that Dave's warehouse in Cheektowaga caved in due to the weight of the recent snow. Even though he is facing millions of dollars in lost merchandise and orders - he took the time to stop by and make a donation. THAT is #BuffaloStrong!

WBBZ TV | Buffalo's Buzz shared Jeffrey Roberts's photo.

After dealing with the weather in your hometown, enjoy a Saturday night double feature of laughs on WBBZ-TV! At 10p.m., Svengoolie presents Don Knotts in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" - followed at Midnight when Maxwell, Bird, and Zelda from our own Off Beat Cinema warn of "Reefer Madness!"

Facebook Picture
Timeline Photos

Don Knotts! The name alone is like comic music to my ears, and Don got one of his very best showcases in the genuine classic THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN (1966), this week's Svengoolie offering. Very few performers this side of Lou Costello could match Don as an absolute master of comic shaking and quaking, dating back to his fine work on THE STEVE ALLEN SHOW and of course THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW (where Barney Fife's epic haunted house adventure remains a fan favorite). And the supporting cast is like something out of character actor heaven: Rita Shaw, Charles Lane, Skip Homeier, lovely Joan Staley, and even Robert Cornthwaite! And the great Vic Mizzy's music score is practically a character in itself.

MR. CHICKEN is the special sort of film that could only come from the mid-1960s and occupies a sweet spot which steps over the years from last century to this; I only wish I could have been there to see it in the theater once upon a time.

Meanwhile, some tv markets around these United States will follow Sven with Off Beat Cinema (which marches on, epic Buffalo (where the show is based) snow storm or not), this week featuring the vintage finger-wagging epic about "the sweet pill that makes life better," REEFER MADNESS (1936). Its makers would no doubt be horrified by the contemporary movement towards legalization; personally I think any herbal enhancement which gave the world Cab Calloway is okay by me!
